‘Emraan kisses effortlessly’
The sexy star sings the praise of Raaz 3 co-star Emraan Hashmi’s versatility
Bipasha Basu’s character in horror flick Raaz 3 is the talk of Tinseltown at this moment. Yes, she is back with a bang and is hoping to generate the same success she garnered with the first Raaz (2002) in which she played the leading lady. Excerpts from an interview:
You’ve had a great association with the Bhatts (makers of the Raaz franchise) but haven’t been in their films for long. Why so?
I was clear with the Bhatts that I needed to do a film with them which was better than Raaz and Jism. I wanted a role that I have never played before. I could tell them this because the understanding with them is like being at home; it’s not like a production house. I told Mukesh Bhatt to get me a role I want to do and he did that and now I’m in the film.
Would you call this a great reunion?
[Director] Vikram and I are such good friends and we kind of parted for a long time but now we’ve got our friendship back and it’s just amazing. Emraan was the assistant to the director (AD) in Raaz and now he’s the leading man in this film. It’s great coming back together.
Emraan Hashmi from AD on Raaz to lead actor in Raaz 3…What was working with him like?
Emraan is a very powerful actor. Anybody who wants to write about his kisses should just forget it. People should focus on the work that he does because he is fabulous and yet does the kissing bit effortlessly. But he is an actor who doesn’t need to do much because of the talent he encompasses. He is so casual and I, on the other hand, was so scared about playing my character.
Did you have any apprehensions about playing this character?
This character is inspired from Vikram’s deep dark past. I have no idea who it is and I keep pulling his leg for that. But I am not aware that it’s based on someone’s life. For me, Shanaya actually stands for the entire actors’ fraternity: She has the basic emotion of wanting eternal fame, something that every actor wants.
What is the scariest thing about Vikram Bhatt?
There is nothing scary about Vikram. If I want to make a film I would cast him as the mad scientist (laughs)! On a serious note, he is a master of horror. I personally feel he lives with ghosts or they communicate with him because he just knows how to scare people. It’s an art he has mastered.
